Spring has sprung – the trees are budded, the flowers are bloomed and the birds are chirping!  If you’re planned on selling your home this year, Spring is the perfect time to do so.  We compiled a list of things to get started on now for a head start on your spring to-do list!

Start spring cleaning now

Declutter your basement and attic by starting at one point and working systematically through one box, one pile, and one area at a time.  Simplifying the clutter in your environment is key when trying to get your home ready to put on the market. You want your home to show a little of your personality, but you also want buyers to see the potential in your home. Your goal should be to make your home a place that a buyer could come in and imagine living there with their own décor, style and personalization to the space.

Look for ways to improve your home

Could the kitchen use a bright sunny new backsplash? What about a fresh coat of paint? Windows that need replacing, to something as easy as caulking the bathtub can make a world of difference when it comes time to put your home on the market. There are so many resources online for DIY projects and in some instances, it’s more cost effective, and can be very rewarding. However, don’t be afraid to consult a professional or seek outside help. Getting ready to put your home on the market can be overwhelming, and sometimes a professional opinion can steer you to the course you need to take with renovations. Then, you can estimate what you can budget for, what you would be able to do on your own, and what kind of timeline you’re looking at for your project completion.

Don’t just work on the indoors

Find ways to improve the value of your home with some landscaping and simple outdoor updates. Now is a great time to do an overhaul of your home, both internally and externally. Have you heard of the importance of curb appeal? Curb appeal is the initial attraction buyers have to your home. You cannot overemphasize the importance of the first impression of your home. That starts from the first moment a potential buyer views the property. You may not have the biggest porch, but there are charming touches that you can incorporate to make your home more appealing. Planting flowers and herbs is an easy fix. Hanging baskets, a door wreath, and updated, stylish outdoor furniture are great ways to add some charm and elegance to elevate your curbside appeal. Some of the least expensive improvements you can do is a simple landscaping overhaul. Prune bushes, trim hedges, and lastly, one of the easiest things to do is to show your lawn some love. Start with mowing and fertilizing.  A simple fertilizer treatment can go a long way. Your local home and garden store can offer some inexpensive solutions to getting your lawn in top shape. Another simple solution is to rent a pressure washer to clean the exterior of your home, as well as your porches and decks. You can also use paint to add a few accents to your home. Painting or replacing shutters is a quick way to instantly transform your home’s exterior. Take a weekend or two to knock out some of these updates and you’ll be amazed at how quickly your home’s buyer potential is elevated.

Start interviewing Realtors

The absolute best thing you can do is to find the right person who is going to be entirely dedicated to selling your home. Find someone who’s going to go the extra mile to work with you throughout the entire process. Look for an agent that is not only knowledgeable, but knows how to solve problems and think outside of the box. Look for an agent you feel comfortable with, whom you know is going to be honest, fair, and dependable.

Finally, research!

Research the market, research lenders, research EVERYTHING that may potentially come up as you look to sale your home. Write your questions down and while you’re interviewing real estate agents, don’t be afraid to ask questions. This will help you find the best real estate agent match as well as help you gather as much information as possible for preparation.
